The Driving Assistance package consists of DISTRONIC PLUS, BAS PLUS, PRE-SAFE® Brake as well as Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist.
At the push of a button, the DISTRONIC PLUS proximity-controlled cruise control keeps the vehicle at the desired (timed) distance from the vehicle in front when travelling at speeds of 0 to 200 km/h. Radar sensors permanently measure the distance, regulate the speed and engage the brakes as necessary.
Blind Spot Assist uses the DISTRONIC PLUS sensors to monitor the areas to the left, right and rear of the vehicle at speeds of between 30 and 250 km/h. If a vehicle is detected within the monitoring range, a warning symbol is displayed in the driver’s exterior mirror. If the driver oversees this warning and operates the indicator before changing lane, the warning symbol flashes and an additional audible warning is sounded.
Implementing BAS PLUS Brake Assist in conjunction with the PRE-SAFE® brake system helps to avoid rear-end collisions more effectively. If radar sensors identify a potential collision and the driver applies the brake, BAS PLUS is primed to apply braking in accordance with the available stopping distance.
If a potential collision is identified within the speed range 30 to 200 km/h and the driver fails to apply the brakes sufficiently early, the PRE-SAFE® brake system emits visual and audible signals. If the driver does not respond to this warning, independent partial braking is activated 1.6 seconds before impact at a deceleration rate of up to 4m/s2. If the system assesses the situation as highly critical and there is still no reaction from the driver, an independent full brake application and more comprehensive PRE-SAFE® measures can even be initiated automatically 0.6 seconds before what is considered an unavoidable impact. This reduces the impact speed and the resulting severity of the accident.
