MERCEDES-BENZ DELIVERS NEW FUEL-SAVING

MERCEDES-BENZ DELIVERS NEW FUEL-SAVING GPS-LINKED CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM

Irish operators of the new Mercedes-Benz Actros will shortly have the chance to use a cruise control system that can ‘see ahead’ and help reduce fuel consumption by an additional three percent.

As the first GPS-based cruise control system, Predictive Powertrain Control can apply its knowledge of the road ahead to help drivers respond in a way that will deliver the most fuel-efficient performance by intervening to control speed and braking and regulate transmission.

The new driver assistance system uses GPS data to change gear and regulate cruise control, coming into its own when negotiating up- or downhill gradients.
The system thereby extends use of the fuel-saving EcoRoll function fitted as standard on the new Actros.

Commenting, Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicles sales manger Fergus Conheady said ‘this new Predictive Powertrain Control system exploits the fuel-saving potential of the new Actros down to the very last drop.”
