In restricted lighting conditions, there is less information for the eyes to process. Only drivers who have a good overall view of the road and traffic ahead can spot potential hazards sooner and react accordingly. Mercedes-Benz vans are equipped with lighting systems developed based on the very latest findings.
State-of-the-art headlamps with manual range adjustment, halogen foglamps, headlamp cleaning systems and safety tail lights maintain excellent levels of visibility.
In certain Mercedes-Benz vans bi-xenon headlamps additionally assist the driver with the add-light / active light function. These lamps give the low-beam headlamps up to 87% more luminosity; if you switch to main beam, you will see up to 180% more than when using conventional headlamps.
Conventional headlamps are unable to provide sufficient illumination of the area to the side immediately ahead of a vehicle. This is particularly true on tight bends, at junctions and when manoeuvring. In situations like these, the illumination provided by the low-beam headlamps is complemented by an additional light source, the Add-Light System with the cornering light function. The Add-Light System operates when cornering at speeds up to 70 km/h, while the cornering light function is activated when the direction indicator is operated at speeds up to 40 km/h. These systems come into operation when a given steering angle is reached.
The Headlamp Assist proves particularly handy when driving at dusk as it switches on the vehicle's lights at exactly the right time. Meanwhile, the rain sensor automatically switches on the windscreen wipers when it starts to rain and continuously adjusts the wiper speed depending on the intensity of the rainfall.
