A lot of work has been done on achieving low consumption and emissions for the V-Class. The savings of the top-specification V 250 BlueTEC engine compared to the V6 engine of the Viano are impressive: Through downsizing, the 4-cylinder engine uses around 2 litres less per 100 km, but with comparable torque.
The V-Class has the following BlueEFFICIENCY measures on board as standard:
The standard BlueEFFICIENCY package measures implemented on the drive system and the aerodynamics have improved the consumption figures and CO2 emissions for the vehicle. The ECO start/stop function, the Fuel Efficiency alternator and aerodynamically-shaped underfloor panelling all increase the efficiency of the vehicle.
The measures to reduce consumption and emissions in detail:
The ECO start/stop function switches off the engine temporarily when the vehicle is stationary, which helps to reduce consumption, particularly in urban and stop-and-go traffic
The Fuel Efficiency alternator, with improved efficiency rate, takes some of the strain off the engine
Underfloor panelling optimises the aerodynamics by ducting the air in an aerodynamically efficient way beneath the vehicle

[2] The BlueEFFICIENCY package comes as standard with all vehicles fitted with 7G-TRONIC PLUS and as an optional extra for vehicles with 6-speed manual transmission.
