As is the case with Como, the other locations for Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Centers - in Tokyo (Japan), Carlsbad (USA) and Peking (China) - have been quite deliberately selected. Mercedes-Benz anticipates that the characteristics of each location peculiar to that place will stimulate the creativity of its designers, thereby leading to some pioneering design work. "The fact that we live here means we're automatically soaking up these influences: the pace of life, the people, the things they take for granted, the things we eat, the things we see, the colour of the sky. It's all about a way of life and the atmosphere here," is how Frederic Latino, a designer for Mercedes-Benz in Como, summarises the concept behind the Advanced Design Centers. The sky over Como is different to the sky over Sindelfingen; and from Como, the horizon looks different to how it does in Sindelfingen – at least, from the point of view of design. But the creative bedrock is and always has been the Advanced Design Center in Sindelfingen.
