The starting shot for the development of the new car was already fired at the end of 2015. Unlike in previous years, there were a variety of changes to the technical rules to be observed. This includes, above all, a larger number of uniform parts. "This means in 2017 the entire chassis is uniform," explains Hügle. "Main parts in aerodynamics such as the wings, the front diffuser or the underbody are also identical."
These uniform parts were developed together by the three manufacturers involved in the DTM. For this, they divided the development amongst themselves. For example, one manufacturer dealt with the chassis, another the underbody and another the rear diffuser. "The construction work is partially undertaken by the manufacturers directly," says Hügle. "For example, we constructed the wheel carrier." The development of all uniform parts took until about August 2016.
